Relationships are written into the DNA of your existence, including your relationship with health. The key health relationship is acid/base. The balance between these two controls wellbeing, energy, aging and your moment-to-moment quality of consciousness. A healthy, energetic body is the foundation for all aspects of your life.

How does the acid-base relationship control your health?

The most important step to good health is to eat less while maintaining optimal nutrition. The next step is to eliminate acid addictions, and there are many in modern society (illustrated below). Too much acid destroys your health and diminishes your experience of life. Eliminating acids may be impossible, even unnecessary, but a dramatic reduction in acid intake will transform your health and restore a natural balance.

Energy and health are dependent on your body’s ability to maintain an equilibrium between acid-base states. The balance between these two supports vibrant health and energy. A proper balance will positively affect the course of many diseases, including: cancer, AIDS, chronic pain, allergies and countless more. The following chart describes the fundamental characteristics of the acid-base relationship.

Acid states are consistent with the release of energy and are called “catabolic.” To release energy, the body breaks down energy stores, which include – in order of preference – carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. This breakdown occurs when we expend energy for our daily activities.

Catabolic states are natural and essential, but if catabolic states last too long, the body’s vital systems begin to deteriorate. Stress is the most common cause of abnormal catabolic states. It causes the unnatural release of certain hormones. These hormones, known as catecholamines, break down the body. Over an extended period, this will result in a compromised immune system resulting in disease, chronic fatigue, depression, infections, and could predispose you to cancer.

Your body balances acid states with alkaline/base states. Alkalinity promotes rebuilding energy storage, which in turn revitalizes body tissues. For instance, when doing a heavy weight lifting workout your muscles breakdown, which is a catabolic event. Over the next three days your muscles heal, which is an anabolic event. This is especially true in the evening; anabolic states are prevalent during sleep and facilitate your body’s rejuvenation.

A balanced body maintains a delicate equilibrium between anabolic and catabolic. It takes a long time for the body to get sick as it has incredible resiliency and redundancy. An artery must be clogged 70% to 80% before you notice any symptoms. Chronic problems usually take decades of neglect to become symptomatic. The spinal cord has plenty of excess space surrounding it; it takes a severe injury or years of poor posture to develop symptoms. If you disrupt the acid/base balance over extended periods, your health will surely deteriorate.

Acid poisons are the predominant toxins in our society. These acids cause deterioration of our immune system, loss of energy and disease. The following substances can create acid accumulation in our bodies:

  • Refined Sugar
  • Refined Salt
  • Nicotine
  • Caffeine
  • Alcohol
  • Carbonic Acid (sodas)
  • Phosphoric Acid (colas)
  • Acetic Acid (vinegar)
  • NutraSweet / artificial sweeteners / Alcohol sugars
  • Condensed unnatural proteins (The building blocks of proteins are called acids)
  • Condensed synthetic fat (saturated and Trans fats from fried food)
  • Air Pollutions
  • Hormones (unnatural)
  • Antibiotics
  • Most medicines (i.e., Anti-inflammatories)
  • Pesticides
  • Environmental Toxins (99,000 of them)
  • Sleep deprivation (an epidemic in our Societies)
  • Stress (stress hormones are catabolic

These are the predominant causes of acid buildup and deterioration of the body. The typical American lifestyle and diet include a majority of these toxins. In a constant acid state, we are breaking down our bodies, never giving them the chance to rebuild. This is the primary underlying cause of disease in modern society. Constant stress, lack of sleep, condensed unnatural fats, proteins and many environmental toxins create a continuously high level of acid. Over long periods of time, catabolic states will deteriorate our immune system which makes us vulnerable to a multitude of chronic diseases. We gain a deeper understanding of relationships knowing how essential anabolic/catabolic states are to our internal balance and a healthy life.
